The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is inviting people interested in joining its volunteer team to attend an orientation session next month.

The one-hour orientation will begin at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the ALPLM library building, 112 N. Sixth St. in Springfield. The session will provide information about available volunteer opportunities, how the volunteer program operates and what participants should know about the library and museum.

The ALPLM has a volunteer team of approximately 600 people who assist in several areas, including greeting visitors, helping with events and assisting researchers. Volunteers contribute an average of about 35,000 hours of service each year.

Those who join the program will also be asked to attend three additional two-hour training sessions on Sept. 23, Oct. 7 and Oct. 14. Volunteers receive free admission to the museum and have access to special lectures and presentations.

Anyone interested in registering for the orientation can contact ALPLM Director of Volunteer Services Jeremy Carrell at 217-558-8984. Additional information about the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is available online.
