A man was arrested Monday evening and booked into the Sangamon County Jail on charges including kidnapping after authorities say he attempted to abduct a young child from a public park.

Rodly Pierre, 34, was arrested on October 13, 2025, and booked at 10:30 p.m. in connection with an incident at Kiwanis Park. Police were called to the park around 5:15 p.m. after receiving reports that a man tried to take a two-year-old boy.
Pierre is facing a Class 2 felony kidnapping charge for the confinement or attempted abduction of a child under 13 or a mentally disabled person. He is also charged with aggravated battery in a public place (Class 3 felony), unlawful restraint (Class 4 felony), and disorderly conduct (Class C misdemeanor).
Court records show that Pierre had a prior arrest the week before for criminal trespass to property, and he is due for a pre-trial hearing in that case on December 19.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information or eyewitness accounts is encouraged to contact law enforcment.
