The filing period for established party, new party and independent candidates seeking placement on the November 3, 2026 General Election ballot has closed in Sangamon County, completing the post-primary process for filling vacancies in nomination following the March 17 primary election.

The post-primary filing window allowed parties and candidates to fill ballot vacancies that remained after the primary concluded and finalize races ahead of the general election.

According to information released by Sangamon County Clerk Don Gray, only one new candidate filed during the period.

Republican Connie Sebok filed to run for the Sangamon County Board’s District 21 seat, a two-year unexpired term currently held by incumbent Democrat Reggie Guyton. Sebok’s filing creates a contested race in District 21 and was the only change made to the local ballot following the March primary.

At the countywide level, Republican incumbents will seek reelection to each elected county office appearing on the ballot this cycle. County Treasurer Joe Aiello, County Clerk Don Gray and Regional Superintendent Shannon Fehrholz remain without Democratic opposition heading into November. In the race for Sangamon County Sheriff, incumbent Republican Paula Crouch will face Democrat Marc Bell.

With the filing period now closed, the county’s general election field is largely set, though additional deadlines remain. Vacancies created after the March 17 primary election may still be filled through August 26, and candidates seeking to run as write-ins have until September 3 to file.

The 2026 General Election will be held on November 3. Residents may begin requesting vote-by-mail ballots starting August 5. Additional election information, including the full candidate list, is available through the Sangamon County Clerk’s Office.
