A Chatham man is in custody following a burglary that led to the theft of thousands of dollars’ worth of sports trading cards from a Springfield collectibles store earlier this month.

According to the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office, the burglary occurred on December 4, 2025, at approximately 4:55 a.m., when two male suspects forced entry into 217 Comics, Cards, and Games in the 1800 block of Stevenson Drive. During the incident, an estimated $20,000 in sports trading cards was taken from the business.

Detectives reviewed surveillance footage from the store and nearby locations, which led to the identification of one of the suspects as 34-year-old Tyler Hulcher of Chatham. Based on the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued on December 12, charging Hulcher with burglary, theft, and criminal damage to property.

Hulcher was taken into custody shortly before 8:00 a.m. on December 17 by members of the United States Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force. Authorities said he has a criminal history that includes ten prior arrests for traffic offenses, drug-related violations, criminal damage, and alcohol-related offenses.

He is currently being held at the Sangamon County Jail pending a detention hearing. The investigation remains active as detectives continue efforts to identify and locate the second suspect involved in the burglary.
