Residents in need of a passport will have an opportunity to apply locally this weekend thanks to a partnership between the Rochester Public Library and the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s Office.
Passport agents from the Circuit Clerk’s Office will be available to process applications from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, at the Rochester Public Library, located at 1 Community Drive. Regular passport fees will apply, and applicants can find current processing times at travel.state.gov.
“The Rochester Library is proud and excited to partner with the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s Office to make passport sign-ups more accessible to our community,” said Adult Programs Coordinator Kendall Tracey.
Circuit Clerk Joe Roesch encouraged residents in the area to take advantage of the opportunity. “We are pleased to partner with local government, banks, and merchants to provide community outreach events,” Roesch said. “Through these events, we hope to make the process of applying for a passport more convenient for everyone.”
Applicants should bring a certified copy of their birth certificate (no photocopies), a valid photo ID, and an approved passport photo—photos can also be taken on site. Additional required documents include any certified copies of court orders for name changes, custody, or adoption decrees, along with two checks or money orders to cover applicable fees.
Those unable to attend Saturday’s event can still apply for a passport in person at the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s Office in Springfield, open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The office is closed on weekends and court holidays.
