State Representative Mike Coffey, R-Springfield, is encouraging residents to take part in a community effort to provide comfort to children receiving care at HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital. Coffey has partnered with the hospital to help collect donations of new stuffed animals and blankets as part of the HSHS St. John’s Foundation’s Comfort for Kids Drive.
From March 4 through April 3, Coffey’s district office in Springfield will serve as a collection site for the items, which will be distributed to children recovering from illness or injury at the hospital. The drive is organized through the HSHS St. John’s Foundation and aims to provide simple comforts to young patients during their time in the hospital.
Coffey said the hospital plays an important role in providing care for children and families across the region and that the donation drive offers a way for the community to show its support.
“HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital provides outstanding care and services to children from across the state, and the Comfort for Kids Drive brings the community together to help bring happiness to children in care at the hospital,” Coffey said. “I want my constituents to know every donation of a stuffed animal or blanket will bring a smile to a child’s face, and that is our goal. If you would like to participate in the Comfort for Kids Drive, please drop off items at my district office in Springfield.”
Residents of the 95th District and surrounding communities are encouraged to participate by donating new stuffed animals or blankets during the collection period. Organizers say the donations will help provide comfort to children facing difficult circumstances while receiving treatment.
Donations can be dropped off at Coffey’s district office, located in the E-1 Stratton Office Building at 401 South Spring Street in Springfield.
