Crime Stoppers: Crime of the Week

Crime Stoppers is seeking the public’s help in an arson investigation involving damage to a Springfield business earlier this week.


According to authorities, the fire occurred around 1:00 a.m. on December 21 at Carter’s Fish Market, located at 1900 E. South Grand Avenue. The Springfield Fire Department is investigating the incident, which caused more than $25,000 in damage to a cook shed on the property.

Surveillance video shows a Black male with a gray beard wearing a dark coat and a dark-colored stocking cap. The individual is seen pouring liquid from a blue jug around the cook shed before igniting it and starting the fire.

Anyone with information about the incident or who can identify the individual is asked to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 217-788-8427, submit a tip online at cashfortips.us, or use the P3 app. Tips that lead to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,500.
