New drone footage released by Sangamon County is offering residents a view of progress on the Woodside–Iron Bridge Road project. The aerial video captures continued earthwork, bridge preparation and roadway development, highlighting the steady advancement of one of the county’s most significant multi-year infrastructure efforts.
The Woodside–Iron Bridge reconstruction began earlier this year following extensive planning and public input and is designed to improve safety, traffic flow and long-term reliability along one of Sangamon County’s busiest travel corridors. Planned improvements include roadway realignment, drainage upgrades and new bridge infrastructure, with construction expected to continue into 2026. County officials have made the monthly drone releases a regular feature of the project, allowing residents to track progress from above, particularly during seasons when ground-level views are limited by weather or active work zones. The latest footage, available at sangamonil.gov/woodsideironbridge, joins previous monthly updates documenting the scale and complexity of the ongoing work.

Beyond the Woodside–Iron Bridge corridor, Sangamon County is also advancing several other major transportation projects that are reshaping mobility and infrastructure across the region. Chief among them is The HUB – Transportation Center, a transformative $123 million development located within the block bounded by Ninth Street, Washington Street, the 10th Street rail corridor and the former Adams Street alignment in downtown Springfield. The project will deliver a new Amtrak station, a multi-level parking garage and an indoor County Square designed to serve as both a transportation hub and a public gathering space.
Planned features inside the County Square include a 1908 Race Riot exhibit, the Sangamon County Sports Hall of Fame, a potential First Citizen exhibit and a small retail space, blending transportation, history and community engagement within a single facility. The HUB is scheduled for completion in fall 2027.
The Transportation Center is a central component of the larger Springfield Rail Improvements Project, a $475 million, multi-phased initiative intended to alleviate rail congestion in downtown Springfield by consolidating train traffic from the Third Street corridor to the 10th Street corridor. By relocating rail lines and modernizing infrastructure, the project is designed to improve safety, reduce traffic delays and support long-term economic development in the capital city. As construction progresses, The HUB will serve as a visible anchor of the broader rail transformation underway.
In addition to these large-scale efforts, the County is overseeing the MacArthur Boulevard Extension, a $7 million project that will provide four lanes for MacArthur Boulevard to align with the realigned Iron Bridge Road. The extension will connect Woodside Road north to the MacArthur Boulevard interchange along Interstate 72, improving connectivity and traffic flow in a rapidly developing portion of the county. Construction is estimated to be completed in fall or winter of 2026, complementing the ongoing work along the Woodside–Iron Bridge corridor.
