Honoring Sacrifice
August 7th marks Purple Heart Day, a day to honor the brave men and women who were wounded or killed in service to our nation. The Purple Heart, first established by George Washington in 1782, is awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have shown extraordinary courage and sacrifice in the face of danger.
This day serves as a reminder of the costs of freedom and the immense gratitude owed to our service members. Communities across the nation, including here in Illinois, commemorate the day by recognizing local Purple Heart recipients and hosting events to support veterans and their families.
If you want to show your appreciation, consider donating to veteran organizations, volunteering your time, or simply reaching out to thank a Purple Heart recipient. Purple Heart Day is an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who have served and to honor their bravery.
