A Riverton woman and her young daughter were killed in a motor vehicle crash Tuesday on Interstate 55 in Sangamon County.

The crash occurred on Interstate 55 southbound, just north of Exit 92. The woman and her 8-year-old daughter were pronounced dead at the scene. Autopsies were conducted Tuesday, and preliminary findings indicate both died from multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the crash. The deaths remain under investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office and the Illinois State Police.

The victims were later identified as Jennifer Damm, 37, and her daughter, Kendyn Damm, 8.

Kendyn Damm was a student at North Mac Intermediate School. In a statement released by the school, officials described her as “a very happy student with many friends” who will be remembered by the North Mac community.

North Mac schools said counselors will be available for students beginning Wednesday and will remain available as needed in the days ahead to provide support.

School officials asked the community to keep the Damm family and their loved ones in their thoughts during this time of grief.

The crash remains under investigation.
