A Springfield man was taken into custody after a domestic incident Friday morning that ended with him being hospitalized for a stab wound and later booked into the Sangamon County Jail.
At approximately 11:24 a.m. on June 19, deputies with the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a stabbing at an apartment complex in the 3200 block of South Douglas Avenue in Springfield. Responding deputies and an officer with the Jerome Police Department located the injured individual at a nearby business and began providing aid until additional medical assistance arrived.
The victim, identified as 18-year-old Marcello Scott of Springfield, suffered a non-life-threatening injury to the chest and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
While deputies responded to the victim, law enforcement secured the apartment connected to the incident and detained an 18-year-old woman and her 17-year-old sister. Officers with the Springfield Police Department assisted at the scene, and the Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division was called in to continue the investigation.
Witnesses reported seeing the 18-year-old female enter a vehicle outside the apartment following the incident and indicated she may have concealed evidence inside.
Detectives conducted interviews and searched both the apartment and vehicle as part of the preliminary investigation. Investigators determined the incident stemmed from an ongoing domestic dispute involving Scott and the 18-year-old female.
According to the investigation, detectives determined Scott had forced entry into the apartment and battered the woman, who was seven months pregnant at the time. Investigators learned she had been cooking when the altercation occurred and used a small kitchen knife in an effort to defend herself and prevent further injury to herself and her unborn child.
Investigators said the woman cooperated throughout the investigation and directed detectives to the location of the knife as well as a can of bear spray she had obtained for self-defense. She was later transported to a local hospital for evaluation because of her pregnancy.
After receiving treatment and being released from the hospital, Scott was transported to the Sangamon County Jail. Potential charges include Home Invasion, Aggravated Domestic Battery and Aggravated Battery to a Pregnant Woman.

Scott remained incarcerated pending his initial court appearance.
