The Sangamon County Department of Public Health (SCDPH) will begin offering seasonal flu immunizations to the public on September 23rd. Vaccines will be available at their main office located at 2833 South Grand Avenue East in Springfield and at outbound flu clinic locations across the county.
Walk-in clinic hours are Mondays: 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Tuesdays to Fridays: 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The SCDPH, along with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), strongly recommends that everyone aged six months and older receive an annual flu shot. Flu vaccinations take up to two weeks to offer full protection and are crucial during the peak flu season, which runs from October to May.
Flu symptoms typically include fever, cough, headaches, and fatigue, with infections spreading through coughs and sneezes.
SCDPH accepts a wide range of insurance plans, including Medicare Part B, Medicaid, Blue Cross, Aetna, Humana, and more. For additional information, call 217-535-3102 or visit SCDPH.org.
