The City of Springfield has released its proposed Fiscal Year 2027 budget, with public hearings set to begin next week as part of the formal review process.

The proposed budget outlines a balanced Corporate Fund plan for the upcoming fiscal year.

“We are pleased to present the proposed Fiscal Year 2027 budget,” Mayor Misty Buscher said. “This balanced budget reflects our continued commitment to keeping residents safe, maintaining and improving our infrastructure, and delivering reliable public services. It prioritizes investments in technology, economic development, and essential equipment to support safe, professional, and efficient service to the Springfield community.”

The City’s Corporate Fund serves as its principal operating fund and supports departments including the Police and Fire Departments, Public Works, the Office of Budget and Management, the Mayor’s Office, Human Resources, Planning and Economic Development, the City Treasurer, City Clerk, and City Council. According to the City, the proposed FY27 budget represents the first full fiscal year affected by the elimination of the state grocery tax.

City officials say the FY27 budget places an emphasis on structures, equipment, technology, and infrastructure as part of its overall approach to service delivery.

As part of the budget review process, the City has scheduled three public budget workshops beginning next week. The first workshop will be held Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., and will include an overview with presentations from the City Treasurer, City Council, the Mayor’s Office, and the Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau.

A second workshop is scheduled for Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., with presentations from the Lincoln Library, Office of Planning and Economic Development, Human Resources Department, Public Works, and the Office of Budget and Management. The final workshop will take place Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., and will include presentations from the Springfield Police Department, Springfield Fire Department, and City Water, Light and Power.
