Residents of Riverton and surrounding communities will have an opportunity to apply for a passport close to home this weekend as the Village of Riverton partners with the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s Office to host a passport registration day at the Riverton Village Library.
Passport agents from Circuit Clerk Joe Roesch’s office will be available Saturday, January 24, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Riverton Village Library, located at 1200 E. Riverton Road. The event is intended to provide a convenient option for individuals seeking to obtain a passport without traveling to Springfield. Standard passport fees will apply, and applicants are encouraged to review current processing times through the U.S. Department of State.
“The Village of Riverton is proud and excited to partner with the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s office again to make passport sign ups more accessible to our community,” said Riverton Mayor Joe Bartley.
Roesch said his office continues to prioritize outreach efforts that bring essential services directly into local communities. “We are pleased to partner with local government, banks and merchants to provide community outreach events,” Roesch said. “Through these events, we hope to make the process of applying for a passport more convenient for everyone.”
Roesch encouraged residents in the Riverton area who need a passport to attend the event and take advantage of the opportunity to apply locally.
Applicants attending the registration day must bring a certified copy of their birth certificate, a valid photo ID, and any certified court documents related to name changes, custody, or adoption. Approved passport photos are required, though photos may be taken on site. Payment for applicable fees must be made using two checks or money orders.
Individuals unable to attend the Riverton event may apply in person at the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s Office in Springfield Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The office is closed on weekends and court holidays. Additional information is available at sangamonpassports.org or by calling the circuit clerk’s passport office at 217-747-5183.
