The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office announced that two suspects connected to a retail theft in New Berlin were identified within minutes after a notification was sent through The Sheriff’s App requesting the public’s assistance.
On January 6, 2026, at approximately 11:24 p.m., a white male and a white female entered the Road Ranger convenience store located at 700 King Drive in New Berlin. Investigators reported the male suspect distracted the lone employee while the female suspect went behind the counter and stole more than $800 worth of cigarettes. The suspects fled the scene in a dark-colored Chevrolet SUV, traveling northbound.
After the notification was sent to the public through The Sheriff’s App, tips identifying the suspects were received within five minutes.

As a result of that information, deputies were able to identify Christopher W. Rixner, 36, and Melissa A. Hubbard, 35, of Springfield. Arrest warrants were issued for both individuals Friday (1/16/25), charging them with Retail Theft.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Christopher W. Rixner or Melissa A. Hubbard is asked to contact the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office at 217-753-6666 or Crime Stoppers at 217-788-8427. Anonymous tips can also be submitted at www.cashfortips.us
