Sheriff’s Office Releases "Click It or Ticket" Results

The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office has released the results of its participation in the 2026 “Click It or Ticket” campaign conducted during the Memorial Day travel period.

The annual traffic safety campaign focused on increasing enforcement efforts aimed at reducing dangerous driving behavior and improving roadway safety throughout Sangamon County.

During the enforcement period, deputies conducted 48 traffic stops, issued 31 citations and made one felony arrest.

Law enforcement efforts placed particular attention on violations commonly referred to as the “Fatal 4,” which are driving behaviors associated with serious crashes and traffic fatalities. Those violations include impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding and seat belt offenses.

Deputies also enforced Illinois’ Scott’s Law, which requires motorists to slow down and move over when approaching stopped emergency vehicles displaying warning lights.

Sheriff Paula Crouch said the campaign was intended to encourage safer driving decisions during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

“We appreciate the drivers who made safe choices and helped keep our roads safer throughout the Memorial Day holiday period,” Crouch said. “Traffic enforcement efforts like these are intended to encourage safe driving habits and reduce preventable crashes.”

The “Click It or Ticket” campaign is supported through federal highway safety funding administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
