A free event aimed at helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses and improve well-being is scheduled for May 7 in Springfield.
The Illinois Small Business Development Center for Central Illinois, Innovate Springfield and Illinois Local are partnering to host the Small Business Skill Share, a morning session focused on practical strategies for business owners. The event will take place from 9 to 11:45 a.m. at Innovate Springfield, 1 Horace Mann Plaza.
Organizers said the event is designed for entrepreneurs seeking actionable guidance, with topics including artificial intelligence tools, government contracting, SBA loan strategies and stress management. A networking lunch sponsored by AlignLife of Springfield Chiropractic will follow the program.
The event is being held during National Small Business Week, observed May 3–9, and is intended to support local entrepreneurs while recognizing their contributions to the community.
“Our commitment to fostering local business growth drives our collaboration for this event during National Small Business Week,” said Kevin Lust, director of the Illinois SBDC for Central Illinois. “By working with Innovate Springfield and Illinois Local, we provide our community with direct resources on key topics like funding and AI to help small businesses start, grow, and succeed. Register now to secure your spot.”
Rob Kerr, executive director of Innovation & Opportunity at Innovate Springfield, said hosting the event aligns with the organization’s mission to support economic development.
“Hosting this skill share fits well with our mission to support economic development. We look forward to welcoming entrepreneurs and offering a space where valuable connections and learning happen during National Small Business Week,” Kerr said.
Gemma Long of Illinois Local said the event is designed to help business owners navigate challenges and connect with resources.
“Entrepreneurs often feel isolated when facing challenges. This Skill Share connects them to resources, highlights opportunities, and provides strategies for managing the pressures of running a business. It is valuable for both new ventures and business owners seeking growth in Illinois,” Long said.
The event is free, but registration is required. Organizers said space is limited.
