The Springfield Police Department is reporting results from a recent traffic enforcement detail as part of ongoing efforts to reduce violations and improve roadway safety.

According to the department, officers from the Field Operations and Traffic Divisions are deployed daily to areas with high rates of traffic violations, crashes and citizen complaints related to moving violations of the Illinois Vehicle Code.

Enforcement efforts often focus on the “Fatal 4” violations, including speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving and occupant safety violations.

On March 17, 2026, officers conducted a traffic detail at the intersection of Sangamon Avenue and Dirksen Parkway. During the three-hour operation, officers made 39 traffic stops and issued 37 citations.

So far this year, officers assigned to traffic details have conducted 391 traffic stops and issued 317 citations.

The department said it will continue using a data-driven approach to deploy officers in areas experiencing higher levels of traffic violations and accidents.
