Springfield Bicyclist Killed in Crash

A 22-year-old male bicyclist has lost his life after being struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of South 11th Street and Ash Street on Monday. The Sangamon County Coroner, Jim Allmon, has identified the victim as Allen Brinkley, a resident of Springfield.


According to Coroner Allmon's preliminary findings, Brinkley succumbed to multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the collision. The victim was immediately rushed to Memorial Hospital following the accident, where medical staff provided extensive treatment for his life-threatening injuries. Brinkley passed away at 5:23 a.m.


The incident occurred at approximately 7:35 p.m. on Monday when the Springfield Police Department responded to reports of a bicycle vs. vehicle crash at the intersection of S. 11th and Ash Streets. Details from the investigation indicate that the motor vehicle involved was traveling south on 11th Street when it collided with Brinkley's bicycle, which was heading east on E. Ash Street.
