Springfield Man Arrested After Fleeing Police

On October 9, 2024, at approximately 3:20 p.m., Springfield Police officers from the Street Crimes Unit responded to a report of a man waving a firearm in the 300 block of S. Glenwood Avenue. Officers spotted a male suspect matching the caller’s description and approached him. The suspect attempted to hide behind a vehicle and was seen concealing a large object in his clothing. He fled on foot, discarding a firearm during the chase. Officers collected the firearm and apprehended the suspect.


LeMarcus D. Yates, 20, of Springfield, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm without a FOID, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest, and a warrant for failure to appear on a burglary charge. He is currently in custody at the Sangamon County Jail.
