Springfield Man Arrested for Attempted First Degree Murder

Springfield police have arrested a local man on charges of attempted first degree murder after responding to a violent incident in the early morning hours of September 24. At approximately 3:03 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 6th Street and Jefferson Street following reports of a disturbance in which a man was allegedly seen kicking and striking another individual who had fallen in the street.
Upon arrival, officers located the suspect nearby and identified him as 46-year-old Montez Bolden of Springfield. Authorities gathered witness statements and secured surveillance footage that confirmed details of the assault. Police later learned that the victim, who was in a wheelchair before the attack occurred, was initially found unconscious at the scene and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Following the investigation, probable cause was established to charge Bolden with attempted first degree murder, along with three counts of aggravated battery. He is currently being held at the Sangamon County Jail.
