A Springfield man is in custody following a violent incident involving an Uber driver that resulted in injuries and the theft of the driver’s vehicle, according to Springfield police. The incident occurred on November 11, when officers were dispatched to the area of Durkin Drive and Lawrence Avenue after receiving a report of a vehicular hijacking involving a ride-share driver.

Police said the driver reported being assaulted by a passenger while transporting him to his destination. During the encounter, the suspect allegedly used a sharp-edged weapon to attack the driver, causing injuries that required medical treatment but were not life-threatening. The suspect then took control of the vehicle and fled the scene.

Detectives with the Springfield Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division launched an investigation that included witness interviews and the collection of evidence. As a result of that work, investigators established probable cause and obtained an arrest warrant for 24-year-old Hezekiah Glenn of Springfield. Glenn was charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking, armed robbery, and aggravated robbery.

On December 9, Glenn was located and taken into custody by the Springfield Police Department with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force. He was transported to the Sangamon County Jail, where he remains pending further court proceedings.

Police noted that the investigation remains ongoing and encouraged anyone with additional information related to the incident to contact the Springfield Police Department or Sangamon/Menard County Crime Stoppers. Authorities emphasized that the charges are allegations and that Glenn is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
