Springfield Man Dies After Friday Night Shooting

A 31-year-old Springfield man has died after a shooting Friday night in Springfield, according to Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon.

The man was transported by EMS from the 1300 block of East Jackson Street to HSHS St. John’s Hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at 11:44 p.m. by hospital staff.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

The death remains under investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office and the Springfield Police Department.
