Springfield Woman’s Remains Found; Husband Arrested

Authorities are investigating the death of a 65-year-old Springfield woman after her remains were discovered in a waste container on the city’s north side.

According to Springfield Police, officers responded around 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, to the 1100 block of North 11th Street for a welfare check after neighbors reported they had not seen the home’s occupant, Nancy Corbin, for an extended period. Detectives from the department’s Criminal Investigation Division were called to the scene after officers determined circumstances required further inquiry.

During the investigation, police located human remains inside a waste container stored in a shed on the property. The remains were later confirmed to be those of Mrs. Corbin.

The Sangamon County Coroner’s Office responded the following day, Nov. 19. Coroner Jim Allmon reported that the remains were in an advanced state of decomposition. They were positively identified Wednesday through scientific methods during an autopsy.

Preliminary autopsy findings did not immediately determine the cause of death, which remains pending additional studies. The death continues to be investigated jointly by the Coroner’s Office and the Springfield Police Department.

Police arrested the victim’s husband, Adam Corbin, on charges of concealment of a death and abuse of a corpse. No additional details regarding the circumstances of Mrs. Corbin’s death have been released.
