State Police Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in Springfield

The Illinois State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Springfield Police Department that occurred Saturday evening in Springfield.


According to state police, Springfield Police officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of Neil Road as part of an ongoing investigation. During the stop, four individuals exited the vehicle, and police reported that each person was armed with a firearm. Shots were fired during the encounter, and one individual was struck.


Officers immediately provided first aid and requested emergency medical services. The injured person was transported to a local hospital and is listed in serious but stable condition.


No officers were injured. Several firearms were recovered at the scene.


At the request of the Springfield Police Department, the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation has assumed responsibility for the investigation.
