Summer Fun Continues at Knight’s Action Park

With about a month of summer remaining, families still have time to enjoy water slides, go-karts, miniature golf and other warm-weather traditions at Knight’s Action Park.

Located just off I-72 in Springfield, the 60-acre park has been a summer destination for generations. The park includes eight water slides, a lazy river, go-karts, batting cages, miniature golf, a Big Wheel and a 20,000-square-foot wave pool.

The park is also offering several promotions and discounts this season. Current deals listed by Knight’s include Mom’s Monday, when moms get in free with a child paying full price; Community Tuesdays, when guests can receive discounted admission after making a qualifying donation to a weekly local partner; and a Wednesday County Market promotion offering a buy-one, get-one Action Splash Pass with a County Market receipt.

On Thursdays, active military, veterans, police, firefighters, EMTs, nurses and teachers can receive $25 admission with valid ID. Dads and grandparents also get in free when accompanied by a child paying full price. The park also lists a daily $5 discount on Splash Kingdom admission with proof of a Pepsi purchase. No double discounts apply.

Visitors can also upgrade a water park day pass to an Action Splash Pass, which includes access to Splash Kingdom along with select dry-side attractions such as miniature golf, the Big Wheel and Paratrooper. The park also offers group rates for official groups such as schools, churches and scout troops.

For many families, Knight’s has become part of the season’s routine — a place for kids to cool off, teenagers to spend a day with friends and parents to revisit a park they may have enjoyed when they were younger.

The park’s history dates back to 1930, when George Knight Sr. opened a golf driving range. More than 90 years later, the family business continues under his grandsons, Doug and George Knight.

That mix of nostalgia and new attractions has helped the park remain a regional draw. The family has continued to expand and update the business over the years, including the acquisition of the iconic Giant Slide from the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

Knight’s also remains a major seasonal employer, with about 265 employees working at the park each season. Many are local teenagers working summer jobs as lifeguards, food servers, ride operators or maintenance crew members.

In addition to the action park and water park, the site is also home to the Route 66 Twin Drive-In, giving visitors another way to enjoy a summer evening.
