A 14-year-old Springfield boy died Monday evening after being struck by a motor vehicle while riding a bicycle in Springfield.

According to Springfield Police, officers were dispatched at approximately 6:02 p.m. May 25 to the intersection of Cook Street and Eastdale Avenue for a report of a traffic accident involving a motor vehicle and a bicyclist.

Officers arrived and found the juvenile male down in the roadway. He was treated at the scene and transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by hospital staff at 6:45 p.m., shortly after arriving at the emergency room, according to Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon.

The coroner’s office identified the boy as Quaneal Leone, 14, of Springfield. An autopsy was conducted Tuesday, and preliminary findings show Leone died from multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the incident.

Police said officers canvassed the scene, collected evidence and spoke with witnesses. The crash remains under investigation, and no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Springfield Police Department at 217-788-8311 or Sangamon/Menard County Crime Stoppers at 217-788-8427.

The death remains under investigation by the Springfield Police Department and the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office.
