Teen Dies After Being Hit on Bike

A 14-year-old Springfield boy died Monday evening after being struck by a motor vehicle while riding a bicycle, according to Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon.


The incident happened May 25 near the intersection of East Cook Street and Eastdale Avenue. The child was transported by EMS to HSHS St. John’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by hospital staff at 6:45 p.m., shortly after arriving at the emergency room.


An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. The child’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.


The incident remains under investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office and the Springfield Police Department.
