Teen Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-55

A 14-year-old girl from Chicago was killed Friday in a multi-vehicle traffic crash on Interstate 55 near Springfield, according to Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon.

The crash occurred near the Clear Lake exit. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.

The incident happened as central Illinois experienced snow, cold temperatures, and deteriorating travel conditions. Winter weather has affected roadways across the Springfield area, with snow accumulation, reduced visibility, and slick pavement reported throughout the day and into the evening.

The Sangamon County Coroner’s Office and Illinois State Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No additional details have been released at this time.
