Track by Track continues its deep dive into albums that defined musical eras. For September, we focus on Nirvana’s Nevermind, released in 1991, an album that forever changed the landscape of rock music and ushered in the era of grunge. Nevermind was not only the soundtrack to a generation but also a cultural milestone that defined the early '90s.

Led by Kurt Cobain’s raw, emotionally charged songwriting, the album was both a commercial success and a critical triumph. Tracks like “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “Come as You Are,” and “Lithium” became anthems of teenage rebellion, disillusionment, and angst. The success of Nevermind propelled Nirvana into the mainstream, but it also helped bring grunge music—and alternative rock—into the global spotlight.

Nevermind redefined what rock music could be, with its blend of heavy guitars, catchy melodies, and introspective lyrics. The album’s success marked a pivotal shift away from the polished, glam metal of the '80s to a more raw, authentic sound. Nevermind became one of the best-selling albums of all time, and its influence can still be felt today in countless alternative and indie rock bands.

Nevermind is available for streaming, digital download, and physical purchase, including anniversary editions that offer fans a look into the creation of this transformative album.
