UIS Lunch & Learn Series Returns This Spring

The University of Illinois Springfield will host three Lunch & Learn Series events this spring at Illini Country Club, 1601 Illini Road. The series is presented by the UIS Alumni SAGE Society and the Illinois State Historical Society.

The first session, “From Pelts to Bitcoin: A History of Money,” is scheduled for March 25. Matthew Brown, associate professor in the UIS College of Business and Management, will examine how money has evolved over 5,000 years, from early bartering systems to modern digital currencies and cryptocurrencies.

A second program, “The Constitution, Supreme Court and Interpretation,” will be held April 15. Jason Pierceson, professor in the UIS School of Politics and International Affairs, will explore how the U.S. Constitution is interpreted in modern governance, including the role of landmark Supreme Court cases and social movements in shaping public policy and daily life.

The series concludes May 14 with “How Global Geopolitics is Changing – and How It Isn’t.”

Brandon Bolte, assistant professor in the UIS School of Politics and International Affairs, will discuss shifting global dynamics, including rising tensions among major world powers and changes in U.S. foreign policy priorities.

All events will be held in person, with doors opening at 11 a.m., lunch served at 11:30 a.m. and programs beginning at noon.

The cost is $50 per person and includes a hot buffet lunch, with a portion of the fee supporting UIS. Virtual viewing options are also available, and registration closes one week prior to each event.
