University of Illinois Springfield Chancellor Janet L. Gooch has been appointed to a four-year term on the newly formed NCAA Committee on Access, Opportunity and Impact. This newly consolidated body merges the former Committee on Women’s Athletics, Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee, Board of Governors Committee to Promote Cultural Diversity and Equity, and the Gender Equity Task Force—an initiative designed to streamline efforts and enhance efficacy in advocating for equity in collegiate athletics.
Envisioned to convene beginning this fall, the committee aims to champion inclusive and equitable experiences for student-athletes at championships and across college sports. Its responsibilities will span advising on relevant policies and promoting leadership and participation among student-athletes from underrepresented backgrounds.

“I am honored to represent UIS and Division II institutions on this important committee,” said Chancellor Gooch. She emphasized the NCAA’s dedication to creating fair opportunities for student-athletes, adding that she looks forward to contributing to this critical work.
Since assuming the chancellorship in 2022, Gooch has prioritized student success, access, and a sense of belonging within transformative educational experiences. In her new role, she will stand alongside representatives from all three NCAA divisions.
The restructuring of these NCAA oversight committees stems from recommendations by the NCAA DEI Committees Review Working Group in August 2024 and aligns with a broader review initiated by the Board of Governors in 2022.
Gooch further noted, “The Committee on Access, Opportunity and Impact will help ensure that all student-athletes have a voice in shaping the policies and practices that affect them. It is a privilege to be part of this effort to build a more inclusive environment across intercollegiate athletics.”
