17-Year-Old Killed in Springfield Shooting

The Springfield Police Department is investigating a shooting that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old male on Sunday.


At 2:58 p.m., Springfield Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 1800 block of S. 11th Street. Upon arrival, officers located a victim who had been shot multiple times inside a residence.


Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon confirmed the death of a 17-year-old male who was transported by EMS to HSHS St. John’s Hospital. Dayquan Wiley, of Springfield, was pronounced deceased at 3:33 pm by emergency room staff shortly after his arrival.


An autopsy was done yesterday, and preliminary findings show Mr. Wiley died from multiple gunshot wounds.


The death remains under investigation by the Springfield Police Department and the Sangamon County Coroner. This is an ongoing investigation, and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
