The Springfield Area Arts Council, in partnership with the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum and Downtown Springfield Inc., welcomed the return of Artist in the Park at Food Truck Fridays last week, kicking off a free summer event series in downtown Springfield.

Held at Union Square Park, 500 E. Madison Street, the lunchtime events will continue every Friday through August 1, bringing live performances by local musicians, dancers, and poets to the stage from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Featured performers this season include Copper Coin Ballet Company, Capital Big Band, Jose Gobbo, and Springfield Poets and Writers.

Complementing the entertainment, a rotating selection of food trucks—curated by Downtown Springfield Inc.—will be on-site each Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., offering a variety of lunch options for attendees.

"We’re thrilled to bring back this beloved summer tradition,” said Bella Szabo, Executive Director of the Springfield Area Arts Council. "It’s a great way to support local artists, enjoy delicious food, and build community—right in the middle of your day.”

The event is free, family-friendly, accessible, and sensory-friendly. Outdoor seating is provided throughout Union Square Park, and in case of inclement weather, performances will move indoors with accommodations in place. Public restrooms are available inside nearby Union Station.

Thanks to sponsorship by the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, all participating performers are compensated for their work.
