The Springfield Area Arts Council, in partnership with the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, has announced the Summer 2024 schedule for Artist in the Park. Formerly known as Artist on the Plaza, this beloved program has been revitalized, bringing additional family-friendly activities to a new location: Union Square Park, located at 500 East Madison Street, Springfield, IL.
Join the Springfield Area Arts Council every Friday between Memorial Day and Labor Day, beginning on May 31 and ending on August 30, as Union Square Park becomes a hub of cultural and artistic expression. From 12 P.M. to 1 P.M., patrons will have the privilege of experiencing a diverse ensemble of local and regional talents spanning singers, dancers, poets, instrumentalists, and much more. This year’s lineup features a variety of performers including Dayna’s Dance Revolution, FOURsquared, Jaden Saunders, Mary Bryant Home Singers, and Tebe.
In addition to the hour-long performances, food and drinks are available for purchase from on-site food trucks between 11 A.M. and 1 P.M. Furthermore, complimentary lawn games will be available for public enjoyment, courtesy of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
At the heart of "Artist in the Park" lies the Council’s commitment to enriching the community through the arts by providing free, family-friendly, sensory-friendly, and accessible art programming. Outdoor seating is available throughout Union Square Park.
The Council thanked the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum for their generous sponsorship, which allows the Springfield Area Arts Council to pay local artists to perform throughout the summer for residents and tourists.
For the convenience of our patrons, public restrooms will be accessible within Union Station, and in the event of inclement weather, performances will be held indoors with seating provided.
