There’s nothing quite like the smell of cookies baking during the holidays. December 18th is Bake Cookies Day, and it’s the perfect opportunity to whip up a batch of festive treats.

This simple recipe for soft, classic sugar cookies is a great way to bring the family together:

Ingredients:

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  • In a bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.

  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla. Gradually add the dry ingredients until fully combined.

  • Roll the dough into balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets. Flatten slightly with a fork or leave them round for puffy cookies.

  • Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.

  • Let the cookies cool slightly on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.

  • Decorate with sprinkles or icing if desired.

On Bake Cookies Day, consider making a few extra batches to share with neighbors, friends, or local charities. Nothing spreads holiday joy quite like a homemade cookie!
