Woman Arrested for Fatal Springfield Stabbing

On June 1, 2024 at approximately 4:33 a.m., officers responded to 2500 block of East North Grand for a 23-year-old-male who had been stabbed.


Upon arrival, the male was located inside a vehicle bleeding from a stab wound. He was transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital for treatment, however he did not survive. 


Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon confirmed the deceased as Michael Gristy, 23, of Springfield. Preliminary findings show Gristy died from multiple stab wounds.


Springfield Police also responded to the 3000 block of Louise Lane, where the incident occurred. A person of interest was quickly located in and was interviewed by detectives.


Julie E. Marshall, 41, of Springfield, was arrested for first degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon. Marshall is currently in the Sangamon County Jail awaiting formal charges by the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s office.
