Crime Stoppers is warning residents about ongoing scam attempts that are targeting individuals’ money, identity, and personal information. Law enforcement officials say scammers continue using increasingly sophisticated tactics to pressure victims into sending money or sharing sensitive information.

“We encourage residents to share this information with family members, friends, and especially elderly relatives, who are often targeted by these scams,” said Sheriff Paula Crouch.
According to Crime Stoppers officials, scammers frequently attempt to create a strong sense of urgency to pressure victims into acting quickly. Common tactics include falsely claiming a loved one is in danger, alleging unpaid government debts, or offering prizes that appear too good to be true.
Authorities say scammers may also instruct victims to keep conversations secret or to lie to family members and financial institutions. Law enforcement officials have also reported an increase in scams using fake text messages, emails, and AI-generated images or videos designed to make fraudulent stories appear legitimate.
Crime Stoppers encourages residents to remain cautious when receiving unexpected requests for money or personal information and to verify suspicious messages before responding. Additional scam prevention resources are available at cashfortips.us.
Crime Stoppers reminds residents that anonymous tips about criminal activity can be reported by calling 217-788-8324. Tips that lead to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,500.
