On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, 42-year-old Chane L. Jones escaped from the Sangamon County Jail. Jones had been incarcerated on burglary and theft charges after being booked into the jail on September 3rd. He managed to slip away by blending in with three other inmates who were being administratively released.
Jones was later apprehended by U.S. Marshals and deputies from the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office in the 1100 block of North 5th Street in Springfield. He has been returned to the jail and now faces additional charges.
The incident remains under investigation by the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office.
