Juvenile's Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound Under Investigation by SPD

On Tuesday, July 9th, at approximately 2:41 p.m., Springfield Police responded to the 2100 block of S. 16th Street for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a male juvenile with a gunshot wound to the torso. He was immediately transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital.


The investigation into the shooting has revealed the 12-year-old juvenile’s gunshot wound was self-inflicted. His injuries are reported to be non-life threatening.


The Springfield Police are continuing to investigate how the firearm was acquired and its ownership.
