As the final school bells ring and backpacks are traded in for beach towels, families across central Illinois know exactly where to head: Knight’s Action Park. A beloved summertime tradition, Knight’s is the go-to destination for thrills, splashes, and fun for all ages.
Located just off I-72 in Springfield, this 60-acre gem has been bringing smiles to families for generations. Whether you’re a kid eager to hit the lazy river, a teen racing friends down one of eight water slides, or a parent ready for a nostalgic ride on the Big Wheel, Knight’s delivers. From go-karts and miniature golf to batting cages and a 20,000 square foot wave pool, it’s no wonder folks from all over the region make Knight’s part of their summer ritual.
The park’s roots go back to 1930, when George Knight, Sr. opened a simple golf driving range. Over 90 years later, that same family legacy lives on through his grandsons, Doug and George Knight, who now run the park. George puts it best: “It’s like a carnival 24-7.” With sibling rivalry adding just the right spark, the duo continues to expand and innovate—most recently by acquiring the iconic Giant Slide at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.
Running a park like Knight’s takes a village—or at least a team of 265 employees each season. Many of them are local teens enjoying their first summer jobs as lifeguards, food servers, ride operators, or maintenance crew. Those looking for seasonal work are encouraged to apply online at knightsactionpark.com or stop by in person at 1700 Recreation Drive.
Knight’s Action Park is open daily from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., with the water park open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. So whether you're chasing thrills, relaxing in the sun, or catching a movie under the stars at the Route 66 Twin Drive-In, Knight’s is ready to welcome you for another unforgettable summer.
Make memories. Make a splash. Make Knight’s Action Park your first stop of the summer.
