Sangamon County residents are being asked to take a few minutes to share their experiences on local roads in an effort to guide future safety improvements. The Springfield-Sangamon County Regional Planning Commission has introduced a brief online survey designed to gather feedback from drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians, and other travelers about the conditions they face every day.
The survey, available at www.ilsafetyactionplans.org/survey, is the first step in developing a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan (CSAP). This plan will serve as a roadmap to identify safety concerns and develop targeted solutions to make roads throughout the region safer for all modes of travel. Participants can provide input on how they move around the county, share personal safety experiences, and mark specific locations on an interactive map where they feel improvements are needed.
Officials emphasize that community participation is essential, as the survey results will directly inform priorities and projects included in the regional CSAP. By contributing their perspectives, residents will play a role in shaping safer streets, intersections, and pathways across Sangamon County.
The initiative is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation as part of the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All program, which supports local efforts nationwide to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities.
The Springfield-Sangamon County Regional Planning Commission leads planning, transportation, and community development efforts throughout the county, working to enhance quality of life and promote economic vitality. By engaging the public through this survey, the commission aims to ensure that the voices of residents are reflected in strategies to make area roads safer for everyone
