Springfield Man Killed in Train Accident

 A 21-year-old Springfield man died after being hit by a train on Saturday night.


Witnesses reported seeing someone on the railroad tracks near North Milton Avenue and Starnes Addition Street in Springfield, holding a phone with the flashlight on, appearing to record the train.


Emergency responders from the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office, Grandview Police Department, Springfield Fire Department, and Sangamon County Coroner’s Office were all called to the scene just after 9 p.m. to administer first aid.


The man was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Jim Allmon. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, and the victim's identity will be withheld until family notification.


Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell said there is no indication of suicidal intent in this incident, and no citations have been issued at this time.


The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
