A Springfield woman has been arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred early Saturday morning.

Police said officers were called at approximately 4:46 a.m. on September 13 to the 400 block of North Fourth Street for a report of a stabbing. When they arrived, they found a male victim with life-threatening injuries consistent with a sharp-edged object. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.

At approximately 10:05 a.m. the same day, detectives arrested 44-year-old Natasha P. Blackwell of Springfield. She was arrested on preliminary charges of first-degree murder and aggravated domestic battery. Blackwell remains in the Sangamon County Jail awaiting formal charges from the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The Sangamon County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity after notification of next of kin. Police said the case remains under investigation by the Springfield Police Criminal Investigations Division.
