31-Year-Old Woman Fatally Shot in Springfield

On January 1, 2025, at approximately 11:40 a.m., Springfield Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 1600 block of South 17th Street.


Upon arrival, officers found a female victim with a gunshot wound. She was transported to HSHS St. John’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 12:11 p.m., according to Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon.


The victim was identified as Kilanna Gladney, 31, of Springfield. Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon said that Gladney died from a single gunshot wound.


Springfield Police detectives and crime scene personnel processed the area for evidence as part of an ongoing investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
