On August 13 at 10:56 a.m., the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a possible explosion at a residence in the 3300 Block of East Enos in Springfield, Illinois. The Springfield Police Department, Springfield Fire Department, and Grandview Police Department also responded to the scene.
When first responders arrived on the scene, they found the residence fully engulfed by flames. The only occupants of the residence were two males from the Springfield area. The two individuals, a 64-year-old male and a 71-year-old male, were both transported by ambulance to an area hospital with injuries from the explosion.
At this time, it is not believed their injuries are life-threatening. According to statements given to Deputies at the scene, the two males were working on a hot water heater at the time of the incident. Ameren responded to the scene due to the suspicion of natural gas contributing to the explosion.
This incident remains under investigation.
