Woman Found with Gunshot Wound in Riverton

Authorities are investigating a shooting incident that occurred early Sunday morning in Riverton, leaving a 20-year-old woman hospitalized in critical condition.


At approximately 12:19 a.m. on May 25, Riverton Police and Sangamon County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound. Upon arrival, they found a 20-year-old female with a gunshot wound to the head.


Deputies and officers provided immediate aid until fire and EMS personnel arrived on scene. The woman was transported to a nearby hospital with a life-threatening injury. As of Wednesday, she remains hospitalized in critical condition.


Detectives from the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division responded to the residence and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
